5. Dennis Haybert "24" David Palmer
When "24" came out 10 years ago, my mum's friend from work gave us the box set of VHS (such a long time ago) to watch. My mum and I stayed at home the whole weekend and watched all 24 episodes back to back under duvets in the living room. I don't even remember what we ate, but we were so enthralled. And we never watched another season of "24" again. I have a theory that certain shows should only have one or two seasons; Lost for example. First season, you're lost, second season, you're found. The end. And Prison Break is another one. First season, you're in prison, second season, you're out. The end. The third and fourth seasons are so unnecessary and then having characters appearing in other television shows? I don't have enough shade for the side eye I gave when Robert Knepper's Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, showed up in Fox's Breakout Kings. ***rolls eyes***
Whoops. I went on a tangent. But, yes. Even though Dennis Haysbert's David Palmer is not actually president. He's black and he's trying to be. So, he's in fifth place.
4. Danny Glover "2012" President Thomas Wilson
Meh. In the last few years Danny Glover has taken to this pattern of speech that annoys the shit out of me. Others may find it endearing, but I find it infuriating. He did it in Antoine Fuqua's Shooter and he takes to doing it as American President and Thandie Newton's dad in Roland Emmerich's (my favourite director) 2012.
3. Tommy "Tiny" Lister "The Fifth Element" President Lindberg
Luc Besson has and always will be my hero when it comes to film. I will watch The Fifth Element until I'm old and decrepit and it will never age, it will never get boring. The Fifth Element is my first love of films. It is also the first time I ever saw a black president portrayed on screen and by none other than the baddy from Friday. Who knew? Tommy Lister is not the greatest actor but instilled a fear in his subordinates that cries leader. Love.
2. Blair Underwood "The Event" President Elias Martinez
Blair Underwood. This wonderful actor who's been in the game for years (Set It Off, Gattaca) plays this young, naive yet strong President with such flair and commitment he just gives me all the life I need every week in this great television show. Unfortunately, a friend let me know, and I also confirmed via Sci Fi Now, that duh Duh DUH The Event has been cancelled. What?!?! How will I live? It was an amazing television show that I will sorely miss. Let's pour some liquor for the homies. :-(
1. Morgan Freeman "Deep Impact" President Beck
The greatest Black President of all time is Morgan Freeman, without a doubt. I trust him with all my heart to lead the free world into all perilous, international turmoils with that resounding voice of his. He speaks with such authority, we have no choice but to fall plague to his awesome voice and do his bidding. Barack Obama wishes he was as a good a president as Morgan Freeman played in Deep Impact, the thinking man's Armageddon. He plays the President with not only a charismatic charm but a vulnerability because he knows that no matter what he does, this meteor is going to come and I love that. I really do.
So there you have it! Think I got it wrong? Don't really care. HAHAHAHA! My blog.
Bye!
